New Horizons in Education provides a forum for introducing and
examining educational practices and ideas. Articles are invited from a
wide range of disciplines about all levels and facets of education. The
journal particularly welcomes articles that consider new initiatives in,
and new directions for, education and which support the aims of the
World Education Fellowship.
Articles may vary in length and format but should not exceed 5000 words
and should include:
- an abstract of approximately 100
words,
- contact details for the
corresponding author, and
- brief biographical details (1-2
sentences) for each author.
All substantial articles offered to
New Horizons in Education are refereed. Published peer reviewed
articles are approved for inclusion in the Australian Department of
Education, Science and Training (DEST) annual publications report as
refereed journal articles.
Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format as an email
attachment in Word, to the Editor margaret.kiley@anu.edu.au. Authors are
asked to use a standard word processing application, keep formatting to
a minimum and avoid including the name of the author(s) in footers or
headers.
Charts, diagrams, line drawings, plans and photographs should be placed
at the end of the article, with reference to them in the text.
The best guide to current New Horizons in Education style is the
material appearing in the journal itself, with the author-date format
preferred.
Explanatory and supplementary material should appear in the text or be
included in an endnote rather than footnote. Where an author's name
appears in the text of an article, the date and relevant page numbers,
if appropriate, should be provided, as follows: Andrews (1999) or
(Andrews, 1999; Epstein, 1998) or (Epstein, 1998: 24). References to
books and articles should be placed at the end of the articles in
alphabetical order.

While manuscripts for refereeing can be forwarded at any time deadlines
for copy of news and reviews are 1 April and 1 September for the June
and November issues respectively.
